Zumba for a Cause supports Van Andel Institute
June 30, 2016
For six years and counting, Nylaan Dental has held Zumba for a Cause classes at their office throughout the summer months. All of the funds from the $3 participation fee and donations collected during each class go directly to a featured charity. On Tuesday, June 21, Purple Community was honored to be the recipient of funds, generating over $300 in support of Van Andel Institute.
Purple Community joined 84 Zumba lovers, collecting donations, handing out swag items, and raffle tickets for fun and exciting prizes! As the participants found their spots, and positioned their much-needed water bottles, the Purple Community staff welcomed everyone and addressed the commonly asked question, “What is Purple Community?” Hannah Acosta, a Purple Community coordinator, explained the purpose of the grassroots fundraising efforts, and how every penny raised from that evening will go directly to Van Andel Institute scientists who are studying more than 20 different diseases, including cancer and Parkinson’s disease.
The energy from the participants was electric and became elevated even more once the instructor, Shahad, turned up the music and the crowd danced in synchronized routines. Thank you to the staff of Nylaan Dental for allowing Purple Community to be a part of such a fun spectacular evening!
