Van Andel Institute welcomes new VP of Philanthropy Eric Sturdy

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (June 26, 2025) — Van Andel Institute has hired Eric L. Sturdy, Jr. as Vice President of Philanthropy, bringing more than 25 years of strategic fundraising leadership across community-based nonprofits, healthcare and higher education.
Sturdy joins Van Andel Institute from Michigan State University, where he served as Senior Director of Development for the College of Education. In this role, he played a pivotal part in reimagining fundraising strategies, building meaningful donor relationships and advancing transformational initiatives aligned with institutional priorities.

Throughout his career, Sturdy has led comprehensive capital campaigns, revitalized development and alumni programs, and secured major gifts to support faculty endowments, scientific research and educational programming. His ability to align donor passions with mission-driven goals has consistently resulted in significant fundraising growth.
