Congratulations to the 2017 VAIGS graduates

Van Andel Institute Graduate School (VAIGS) is thrilled to announce four new graduates who have completed their Ph.D. degree in cell and molecular genetics. The unique education experience at VAIGS has prepared them well for careers as leaders in biomedical research. They now join the ranks of 14 VAIGS alumni who have gone on to pursue exemplary careers with institutions such as Mayo Clinic and Johns Hopkins University.

Dr. Agni Naidu

    • Thesis: “A role for MEK in arteriogenesis”
    • Successfully defended in December 2016
    • Mentor: Bart Williams, Ph.D.

Dr. Kevin Maupin

  • Thesis: “Sexually dimorphic effects on bone mass in aged mice with global and osteoblast targeted mutations of the galectin-3 gene”
  • Successfully defended in February 2017
  • Mentor: Bart Williams, Ph.D.

Dr. Nikki Thellman

  • Thesis: “A human neuronal model for herpes simplex virus latency and reactivation”
  • Successfully defended in April 2017
  • Mentor: Steven Triezenberg, Ph.D.

Dr. Eric Nollet

  • Thesis: “Integrin α6 activity in castration resistant prostate cancer”
  • Successfully defended in April 2017
  • Mentor: Cindy Miranti, Ph.D.
