Biography
Mentor: Brian Haab, Ph.D.
Research Focus: Research focus to be determined.
Experience: Originally from Cairo, Egypt, Ali earned his Bachelor of Science in biomedical sciences with a concentration in molecular and cell biology from the University of Science and Technology at Zewail City, graduating cum laude. As an undergraduate, he served as a junior research assistant at the Center for Genomics, where he investigated yeast genetics to uncover the role of a cytoskeletal protein in DNA repair mechanisms. His research utilized fluorescence microscopy and gene knockout techniques to dissect molecular pathways involved in genomic maintenance. After graduation, he joined a molecular microbiology research group at the same center, where he studied multidrug-resistant bacteria, including both community-acquired and hospital-acquired strains. His work focused on developing innovative therapeutic strategies using nanoparticles. Through drug treatment assays incorporating both time-course and dose-response analyses, he examined how nanoparticle-based approaches affected biofilm formation and bacterial growth, with particular emphasis on multiple strains of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA).
