Design & Discovery

Join Haworth and Van Andel Institute on June 23 for Design & Discovery. Merging the inspiration of modernist furniture design with the elegant shapes and colors of contemporary fashion, Design & Discovery will excite your imagination and showcase the power of the creative spirit.
This exclusive event will take place at the legendary Haworth headquarters and showroom in Holland, Michigan, and will feature a runway show by Leigh’s in the atrium, hors d’oeuvres, artisan cocktails and complimentary swag bags.
Guests will be treated to AB’s incredible DJ sets during the fashion show and seated dinner, served on the patio. Seating will be assigned for this event. All proceeds from Design & Discovery will benefit the Institute’s biomedical research and science education initiatives.
As the event will take place partially outdoors, cocktail attire and comfortable shoes are suggested.
Van Andel Institute continues to monitor the COVID-19 situation and adjust our event plans as needed. To keep everyone as safe as possible, proof of vaccination (printed vaccination card or digital version) OR proof of a negative rapid test (day of event) will be required for guests at this event. Due to the currently high level of community transmission, all guests may want to consider conducting a rapid test the day of the event. Masks will be available but are optional.

Donated by Paolo Nicolai, his description below:
Featured sculpture: Laocoonte, made from recycled plastic and marble material.
Description:
“The concept of beauty of the classical sculptures, such as the Laocoonte, has never really been ours. Time has decided for us. The sculpture that I present is a no-nonsense creation. It unveils a stylistic code which combines waste material or end-of-life products like plastic, iron, work utensils and marble chips. It is an ode to creative recycling by means of a new artistic material which is not bronze, marble or ceramics.
His body expresses suffering, caught in his own disbelief and contaminated, lacerated, emphasized in the flesh. It reaffirms the drama of his eternal classical presence, recreated here in a post-modern and dystopic key.”
