General Overview
The Weinreich lab is working to understand the process of chromosome replication within cells. The DNA that forms chromosomes has to be copied exactly before a cell divides, and understanding the mechanism by which this happens could allow us to specifically target and stop the division of cancerous cells. The lab is studying the cell division process in yeast (because the process is simpler than in higher animals) and is also comparing the roles of a protein called “Cdc7p-Dbf4p” in yeast and in human cell DNA replication.
