Blood Analysis

Blood Chemistry

The Vivarium provides mouse chemistry analysis in house.  Currently our standard comprehensive profile includes ALB, ALP, ALT, AMY, BUN, Ca⁺⁺, CRE, GLOB, GLU, K⁺, Na⁺, PHOS, TBIL, TP.  Other profiles are available in house upon special request.  Contact the Vivarium for more information on available profiles.  A sample size of 100ul of serum works best, however 100ul of whole blood may be used if a larger volume is not available.  In special circumstances samples may be diluted and values calculated on a linear scale.  The current rate for the standard comprehensive profile is $27.46/sample.  Technical Service charges will apply if Vivarium Animal Technicians are collecting samples from live animals.  Blood must be heparinized for blood chemistry.

Hematology

The Vivarium provides mouse hematology analysis in house.  A standard hematology provides a CBC of white blood cells, red blood cells, and platelets. A breakdown of Lymphocytes, Monocytes, Neutrophiles, Eosinophils, Basophiles, Hematocrit, Hemoglobin, Mean Corpuscular Volume, Mean Corpuscular Hemoglobin, Mean Corpuscular Hemoglobin Concentration, Red cell distribution width, Mean Platelet Volume, Platelet hematocrit, Platelet distribution width, and provides RBC, WBC, and Platelet histogram.  A sample size of at least 100ul is required.  The current rate for the standard hematology is $12.30/sample. Technical Service charges will apply if Vivarium Animal Technicians are collecting samples from live animals.Samples must be treated with EDTA for hematology.
