Animals

Investigators interested in the mouse embryo cryopreservation service should have 10 fertile males, 2 to 6 months of age, available before contacting our lab. The service begins once we receive a completed request form and the male mice. If the investigator can only provide fewer males, it might prolong the service and thus increase the cost. The males are quarantined for a week before they are 1:1 mated to female mice. As stated on our request form, we provide B6C3F1/J females from The Jackson Laboratory (#100010) for breeding unless other arrangements are made.  The females are superovulated with pregnant mares serum gonadotropin (PMSG) and human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) to maximize the number of harvested embryos. Eight-cell stage embryos from these matings will be cryopreserved.
