Biosafety Policy

We are a BSL-1 (Biological Safety Level 1) laboratory, although BSL-2 work is occasionally permitted if more stringent guidelines are followed. BSL-3 work is never permitted. Please notify us if you will be working at a level higher than BSL-1. You must know the BSL of your work.

  • We strongly encourage the use of fixatives where applicable to attenuate biohazards.
  • We will not sort or analyze cells that are labeled with any radioactivity material.
  • We will not sort or analyze cells infected with HIV unless they are fixed by an acceptable documented. method that inactivates all viral particles. If there is any question about the HIV status of a sample, the sample must be fixed.
  • If you have an experimental design that requires biohazard, chemical, or radioactive material, please consult with the Core Manager.
