Dr. Xu's research focuses on the genetic epidemiology of complex diseases including cancer, asthma, and cardiovascular diseases. He is the principal investigator for several prostate cancer genetic studies and leads a group in prostate cancer genetic research.
Dr. Steensma has been appointed Scientific Investigator in the Center for Skeletal Disease Research at VARI. He will head the Laboratory of Musculoskeletal Oncology at VARI, which will function as part of a broad institutional commitment towards developing new treatment strategies for sarcomas. Dr. Steensma will also initiate and maintain an active clinical program at Spectrum Health focused on the treatment of orthopaedic-associated malignancies, such as sarcomas, and will serve as Assistant Professor in the Department of Surgery in the Michigan State University's College of Human Medicine. About Van Andel Institute
Established by Jay and Betty Van Andel in 1996, Van Andel Institute (VAI) is an independent research and educational organization based in Grand Rapids, Mich., dedicated to preserving, enhancing and expanding the frontiers of medical science, and to achieving excellence in education by probing fundamental issues of education and the learning process. VARI, the research arm of VAI, is dedicated to probing the genetic, cellular and molecular origins of cancer, Parkinson and other diseases and working to translate those findings into effective therapies. This is accomplished through the work of over 200 researchers in 18 on-site laboratories and in collaborative partnerships that span the globe.
