Jandernoa Named to Van Andel Institute Board of Trustees

Grand Rapids, MI (March 5, 2008) –   Michael J. Jandernoa, the former chairman of the board and CEO of Perrigo Company, the nation’s largest manufacturer and marketer of store brand over-the-counter drug and nutritional products, was elected to the Van Andel Institute (VAI) Board of Trustees on February 25. His term is to be effective immediately.

The VAI Board of Trustees oversees both the Van Andel Research Institute (VARI) and Van Andel Education Institute (VAEI), the complementary institutes that carry out VAI’s dual mission to conduct basic and translational research into the genetic and molecular origins of cancer and other diseases and to have a national impact on science education. Jandernoa joins current board members Van Andel Institute Chairman and CEO David Van Andel, Hauenstein Enterprises President Ralph Hauenstein, Cook Holdings Chairman Peter Cook and Autocam Corporation President and CEO John Kennedy.

“Mike Jandernoa brings a wealth of expertise and an intimate knowledge of the life sciences industry in West Michigan and beyond the region,” said Van Andel. “He knows how to bring medicines to the marketplace as well as how to bring a company to the next level.”

Jandernoa is a graduate of the University of Michigan and is a certified public accountant.  He joined Perrigo as vice president of finance in 1979 and was promoted to executive vice president of sales and finance in 1981. In 1983 he was appointed president, and he became CEO in 1986.  He was promoted to chairman of the board and CEO in 1991, a position he held until May 2000.  During his career at Perrigo, Jandernoa helped lead two leveraged buyouts in 1981 and 1988 and the initial public offering (IPO) in 1991.

In addition to his service on Perrigo’s Board of Directors, he also serves on the boards of Steelcase, Fifth Third Bank of Western Michigan, Cascade Engineering, ADAC Plastics, the Strategic Economic Investment and Commercialization Board (formerly Michigan Technology Tri-Corridor/Michigan Life Sciences Corridor), the University of Michigan Business School Visiting Committee and Grand Valley University Foundation.  Jandernoa is a member of other corporate advisory boards and is a past member of the Young Presidents’ Organization.  He also serves/chairs on numerous religious and community boards and committees and is a co-founder of Bridge Street Capital Partners and a co-founder of Grand Angels.
