Van Andel Institute welcomes Michael E. Phelps, Ph.D., inventor of the Positron Emission Tomography (PET) scanner, as a special guest lecturer on Tuesday, October 4, 2011. Dr. Phelps will address the region’s leading scientists, imaging researchers, physicians, and radiologists on the future of molecular imaging and the uses of PET technology in translational and clinical medicine. The 12:00 p.m. lecture at Van Andel Institute will be followed by a reception. Dr. Phelps is the Norton Simon Professor, Chair, Department of Molecular and Medical Pharmacology, and Director, Crump Institute for Molecular Imaging at UCLA, and is a member of the National Academy of Sciences. He also developed, along with his colleagues Simon Cherry and Arion Chatziioannou a miniaturized pre-clinical PET scanner, microPET.
