In 1859, Charles Darwin published the Origin of Species that has since been recognized not only as a seminal scientific work, but also a landmark of modern thought that has far-reaching consequences. For cancer researchers, the principle of Natural Selection in which variation that confers a survival advantage will be inherited by offspring has itself been adapted to explain the dynamic cellular changes that occur during tumor progression.
To mark the sesquicentennial of the publication of Origin of Species, the Foundation of Advanced Cancer Studies has organized a one-day symposium that will bring together medical and research experts from around the world to discuss the Origins of Cancer. Specific forums will include Genetic Instability, Cellular Pathways, Environmental Factors (Radiation, Diet, and Exercise), Infectious Agents, Clonal Transmission, Non-coding RNAs, and Sporadic Mutations.
The symposium is organized by Drs. Nick Duesbery and Jeffrey MacKeigan from Van Andel Research Institute.
The online registration for this event is closed as of June 15, 2009. If you have any questions about the conference please contact Laura Holman at 616-234-5749 or via e-mail.
