Assistant Dean of the Graduate School

Description:

The Assistant Dean of the Graduate School is primarily responsible for designing and implementing activities for assessment of the graduate school programs and for professional development programs of the graduate school. In addition, the Assistant Dean will work collaboratively with the Graduate Dean in other administrative responsibilities for the graduate school.

Responsibilities:
· Develop and implement plans for assessment of the effectiveness of the curriculum and activities for graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and guest students.

· Develop and implement programs for professional development of graduate students, faculty and postdoctoral fellows.

· Support faculty activity in curriculum implementation, review and revision.

· Participate in graduate student recruitment activities.

· Assist the Graduate Dean in the accreditation process.

· Assist the Graduate Dean in preparing materials for the student handbook, faculty handbook, and recruitment materials.

Department:

Requirements:
  • A minimum of M.S. or Ph.D. (preferred) or equivalent degree in a basic / natural science discipline or in education (preferably higher education). If the candidate’s background is primarily in education, it is desirable that he/she has some experience in a natural science. Conversely, if the candidate’s background is primarily in a natural science, he/she should have some formal training or experience in higher education.
  • Teaching experience, preferably at the college / university level.
  • Leadership skills and experience, particularly in program design and implementation.
  • Experience in education or research administration.
  • Interest in and knowledge of higher education concepts and issues.
  • Strong professional writing and communication skills.

Position Status: Full-Time

Salary: Salary commensurate with education and experience.
