Science Education

Location

The Academy is located in a newly remodeled facility at 216 N. Division, one block south of Van Andel Institute.  It is equipped with technology to enhance learning, facilitate communication and team building, and create a culture of inquiry. The facility includes:

  • Presentation Room – large, open academic and social space for presentations, performances, lectures, training sessions and discussion groups
  • Laboratory – setting for group demonstrations, explanations and discussions, as well as individualized exploration and research using the tools of science
  • Project / Display Rooms – functional and flexible space used for team projects and to display research in progress to the public via windows
  • Reference / Research Room – quiet space for reading and study houses documents, reference books, newspapers, magazines, videos and other materials
  • Student Gathering Room – place for students to gather before arrival, hang coats, store backpacks and eat lunches and snacks
  • Parent / Discovery Room – room for parents and guardians to observe their children via monitors and cable feeds, with periodic opportunities to perform investigations as students are

Study will be enhanced by visits to satellite sites where students can investigate problems and materials in depth, such as John Ball Zoo or Frederik Meijer Gardens.
