Classroom Science Investigations

The Classroom Science Investigations program is a unique professional development initiative in which teachers learn alongside their students. The program is designed to enhance science instruction and encourage student interest in science.

Program Components:

  • Teacher identifies area of focus (e.g.; content, teaching strategy, standard)
  • Discussion and planning sessions held between teacher and VAEI staff
  • VAEI staff develops curriculum for the teacher's classroom and instructional assessment strategies to address teacher-identified focus areas
  • Teacher and his/her class come to the Science Academy for two half-day sessions
  • VAEI staff make classroom visits to continue to model the concepts and methods illustrated and to observe the teacher applying this model
  • Students present what they have learned
